Popkin is in private beta. This page says, plainly, what the app uses and what we do with it. We'll update it before a public release.

The short version

Popkin uses only what it needs to help your group pick a movie. It's kept on a private server and never sold. There are no ads, and no analytics or tracking in the app or on this website.

What Popkin uses

• Your Letterboxd username, and your public Letterboxd watchlist. Popkin reads it to build your group's shared view.
• What you make in the app: your display name and avatar (a letter or an emoji), plus the lists, rankings, picks and parks you create.
• One sign-in per phone. Each one stores a sign-in token and the phone's name (like "Courtney's iPhone").
• Your Tailscale account, at setup. When a phone is set up, the Tailscale account it's signed into may be checked and recorded.
• Feedback you choose to send, including any screenshots or attachments you add.
• For the group's admin only: a Plex connection, used to show what's in their Plex library.
• Film details and streaming availability from TMDB.

Where it's kept

On a private server run by us. It's currently a home server, reachable only over a private network.

We keep your data while you use Popkin. Backups are kept on the same server. We'll set a fixed schedule for how long data and backups are kept before a public release.

Services Popkin relies on

• Tailscale: the private network the app uses to reach the server.
• Cloudflare: hosts this website and forwards email sent to support@popkin.watch.
• YouTube: trailers play on YouTube, under YouTube's own terms.
• Letterboxd and TMDB: where watchlists, film details and streaming availability come from.
• Apple TestFlight: if you're testing Popkin through TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports, and any feedback you choose to send, with us.

What we never do

• Sell your data, or share it with advertisers.
• Show ads.
• Put analytics or tracking in the app.
• Use cookies or analytics on this website.

Your choices

• Delete your data: email support@popkin.watch and ask. We'll remove it from the live database.
• Leave a group: email support@popkin.watch and we'll remove you.
• Deleting your account from inside the app is planned.
